Juric: ‘Faraoni’s goal wrongfully disallowed’

Hellas Verona coach Ivan Juric likes VAR, but insists it was wrong to disallow Davide Faraoni’s goal against Inter.

The Gialloblù suffered a 1-0 defeat against the Serie A leaders last week and saw Davide Faraoni’s goal disallowed for a foul on Samir Handanovic.

A video had shown Faraoni touched Handanovic’s arm, but the coach insisted the goal was wrongfully disallowed.

“We didn’t protest much because, in these situations, you always think of a foul,” Juric said at a press conference.

“After one minute, I was told the goal shouldn’t have been disallowed. Davide protested in his way, which, knowing him, is already a lot.

“He is a correct guy, while Lasagna is a little bit shy. You can put a little more pressure [on the referee] when you have experienced players on the pitch, but it’s not as easy with so many youths.

“I like VAR, I think it has improved football. That was a huge mistake, but I like VAR as it is,” Juric insisted.

Mattia Zaccagni managed five goals and seven assists in the first part of the campaign but has yet to find the net or deliver an assist since January.

However, he will start against Spezia tomorrow.

“He made a step forward in the first part of the season, now he is helping the team play well, but he is not as decisive as he used to be,” Juric said.

“The other day, he picked up a knock during a training session. He can be decisive in the last games of the season and I think he will play tomorrow, because he deserves so,” Juric concluded.
